Although I welcome your
questions, there are several questions that I get over and over. Hopefully you
can find answers to many of your questions here that will save you time when
selecting and ordering your horsehair jewelry.
-
Can mane hair be used?
No, mane hair cannot be used for braiding. Even if it is long enough, the
texture of mane hair is not appropriate for the type of braiding that I do. At
this time I do not have suggestions for what mane hair can be used for. There
are no exceptions.

How long does it take to get
my completed order back? Turn around time depends on how many orders are
in line when your order is received. It varies from 2 weeks -12 weeks.
Christmas is the busiest time of the year. I recommend sending your Christmas
orders in by early October. I will post a deadline to receive orders for
Christmas delivery on my home page. It varies each year. If you have a special
occasion that you need your item for please indicate this date on your order
form.
Current turn around time is 14-16 weeks

How much hair do I need to
send for a custom order? This information can be found on the
"collecting horsehair" page.
-
How do I determine my
bracelet size? This information can be found on the
"determining your size" page. Your order
will not be processed without this information. I will not choose a size for
you. To avoid delays in processing your order, please provide this
information.
-
How long does the hair need
to be? ALL of the hair needs to be 15-18 inches long for a standard sized
bracelet. For a necklace, the hair needs to be about twice the length of the
finished piece. Short hair cannot be braided in with long hair.

All the items we offer are
featured on the web site. We do not make tassels, hat bands, or zipper pulls.

How do I care for my
horsehair jewelry? Horsehair is very durable and will last a very long time
with a little care.
*To prevent damage from moths and insects, store in an airtight
container or a jewelry box. A piece of cedar is a good idea.
*Wearing the horsehair jewelry beside other jewelry or watches could
fray the hair.
*Remove hair jewelry before showering or swimming as chemicals can
dry and damage the horsehair.
*Wash your hair jewelry 1-2 times a year with mild shampoo and
conditioner. Wear the jewelry while drying to maintain its shape.
* In most cases using a silver polishing cloth such as a Sunshine brand
cloth will be sufficient to remove tarnish and nicely shine your silver. (See
order form for ordering)
* If your silver has become excessively tarnished you may need to use a silver
polishing cream. I recommend Flitz brand polish (see order form for ordering) as
it does not contain acid or ammonia. Use a Q-tip or similar item to apply a very
small amount of polish to the silver piece and gently rub. Use extreme care not
to get the polish on the horsehair. Finish by rubbing with a clean dry cloth or
Sunshine cloth. Gently wash your horsehair jewelry to remove any polish that may
have gotten onto the braid in warm water wash with shampoo and follow with
conditioner. (Shampoo and conditioner for human hair is fine.) While wet, tie
your bracelet or necklace around a round object (such as a soda can for
bracelets) and let it dry.
